If there was any doubt that the proliferation of smartphones has had a significant impact on podcasting, a new report released by Nielsen will put that to rest, reports MediaPost.
The MediaPost post stated that in the past three years alone, “the percentage of smartphone users “watching, listening or downloading” a podcast in the past 30 days has surged to 23.9 million. That’s a 157% increase from 2014, when computers were still the dominant medium for consuming podcasts, albeit marginally.
“More significantly, the utility of smartphones — when coupled with all other devices — has been a boon to podcast consumption.
“The report, “A Marketer’s Guide to Podcasting,” drills into audience characteristics, as well as their influence in specific brand and product categories.”
