The Mid-Atlantic MarCom Summit ADWKDC, Oct. 30, featured a range of topics important to communicators, including AI and the growing and shifting number of options to reaching a communicator’s target audience.

During the full-day event, there was a focus on the growth of  AI and the skills communicators need today. Larry Weber, founder, chairman & CEO of Racepoint Global, a communications agency headquartered in Boston, said communicators shouldn’t be afraid of technology and, in fact, they should know more about software. Another speaker told attendees they should adjust their marketing to the speed of our changing culture.  One bottom line for the hundreds of attendees was the following:  “AI is always learning.  Are you?”

In addition, Cary Hatch, who recently announced her retirement following a long, illustrious career in advertising, was recognized for her contributions to the profession. Paul Duning, publisher of Capitol Communicator and a producer of the event, introduced Hatch and said: “Cary, you have been a guiding force in our advertising marketing and communications profession in the DC region for so many years starting with the early days in which you took the reins at MDB. Over the years I and many of your contemporaries witnessed your passion and energy for our profession in all that you have given. You have led the charge for so many initiatives and have influenced so many that have been fortunate to know and work with you. The list of your accomplishments is abundant.”

Of note, Washington, D.C., proclaimed Oct. 30 as Cary Hatch Day and, that evening, the Washington Business Journal presented Hatch with a lifetime achievement award.

In addition, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the American Advertising Federation DC’s ADWKDC, which Hatch is recognized as founding. For the past couple of years, AAFDC has joined forces with the Mid-Atlantic MarCom Summit to add ADWKDC as its advertising track.

The full-day event featured 80 speakers from brands representing B2B, B2C, B2G, non-profits, associations, agencies and service platforms, participating in 28 sessions for professionals in advertising, marketing and communications.
