Washington Post Working to Attract International Readers

by | Jan 23, 2017

The Washington Post has launched Today’s WorldView, its first product created for an international audience. Anchored by foreign affairs reporter Ishaan Tharoor, the weekday newsletter, states The Post, “will draw from the vast resources of The Post’s newsroom to distill what matters most from where Washington meets the world. Tharoor will lead each daily edition with “The Takeaway,” offering a clear-eyed view of the global picture under a new President Trump.

“Today’s WorldView is part of The Post’s emerging focus on actively growing international readership. In 2016, The Post saw big growth in its global audience with an 89% increase in fourth quarter page views over the same time period in 2015, and has over 25 million international readers.

““With the expansion of our international audience, we felt it was important to build on our strong foreign news reporting and begin experimenting with ways to specifically serve the interests of these readers,” said Frederick J. Ryan, Jr.  publisher of The Washington Post. “This newsletter will be a first step in our effort to proactively reach more people around the world with The Post’s reporting and original writing.””
