Maria J. Rodriguez, president and CEO of Vanguard Communications, was named one of this year’s Washington Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business honorees. This award celebrates the top female executives in the Greater Washington region and highlights leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds.
“I’m incredibly delighted and humbled at this recognition,” Rodriguez said. “There are many women doing such impactful things in our area, and I feel so honored to be among the 25 that the Journal has selected this year.”
Vanguard is a public relations and social marketing firm that Rodriguez, a native Washingtonian, co-founded in 1987 when she was 27 years old.
“I started Vanguard because there were so many social causes I cared about and I couldn’t imagine only working on one of them,” she added. “Nearly 40 years later, the fact that our firm continues to thrive, innovate and help our clients move the needle is truly a gift.”
Now in its 21st year, the Women Who Mean Business program is a highly competitive program that receives hundreds of nominations each year. Rodriguez and the 24 other award recipients were honored at a ceremony on October 30 at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, D.C.
