WRC Washington News Anchor Leon Harris apologizes for DUI and now getting treatment for alcoholism

WRC anchor Leon Harris has apologized to viewers of the Washington, D.C., NBC-owned station for his January 2022 DUI arrest.

In an on-air apology, Harris called his decision to drive after drinking, “easily the stupidest decision he could have made” and added, “what I did that night could have easily cost someone else their life.”

While he said he was thankful no one got hurt, “I decided on my own to take some time to reflect and to do some intensive work on myself with some very tough professionals to get control of this disease of alcoholism — work that is still in progress.

“I’ve learned this problem is treatable and it is possible to embrace recovery and sobriety.”
