WTOP Washington adds three news directors: Monique Hayes, Bill MacFarland and Giang Nguyen

WTOP Washington, DC (103.5) adds three News Directors with the promotion of Monique Hayes to AM Broadcast News Director, and the additions of Bill MacFarland as PM Broadcast News Director, and Giang Nguyen, who joins as Digital News Director, reports Inside Radio.

“I am so excited to have the force of Monique, Giang, and Bill behind our daily newsroom operations,” Director of News and Programming Julie Ziegler said in a release. “Having their combined talents on both the broadcast and digital sides is exactly what we need to meet our daily mission of delivering the most compelling content to our listeners and readers across all platforms.”

According to Inside Radio:

Hayes most recently served as WTOP’s Assignment Editor and previously held the same role and also served as a Content Producer at NBC Washington. Earlier in her career, she was an Assignment Editor at PBS NewsHour.

MacFarland is a TV veteran who has worked in New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Tampa, and Boston. He most recently served as an Assistant News Director overseeing NBC Boston, Telemundo Boston, and New England Cable News.

Nguyen brings radio and TV experience to her new role. She served as a multimedia reporter at WIBW-TV Topeka, KS, and WQAD-TV Moline, IL. Nguyen has also worked at CNN, Radio Free Asia, NHK World, and CCTV America in both reporter and assignment editor roles.
