The Advocacy Association released “Guide to Careers in Government Relations, Communications and Advocacy,” an e-book offering insights on how to pursue jobs in these emerging fields and excel in them.
According to a release, Joe Franco, president of The Advocacy Association, praised the collaborative nature of the professionals willing to share real-world case studies, best practices and personal insights that can help others succeed. He worked with Joshua Habursky, founder of the Grassroots Professional Network that evolved into The Advocacy Association, and Mike Fulton, who directs the Washington, D.C., office of Asher Agency, on reaching out to their colleagues and editing the publication. Ten authors with diverse backgrounds contributed 17 articles for the eBook.
Franco is vice president of grassroots at LeadingAge, an organization advocating for aging services for America’s older adults, and Habursky is head of federal affairs for the Premium Cigar Association.
Other authors include:
– Jesse Barba, senior director of external affairs at Young Invincibles and formerly a vice president at Cassidy & Associates;
– Bridgette Borst Ombres, a former TV news reporter who is vice president of communications and strategic partnerships at A2U and manager of The Consultant, a boutique PR agency specializing in communications planning, thought leadership and media strategy;
– Chazz Clevinger, chief executive officer of One Click Politics, a nonpartisan digital advocacy software and consulting company;
– Adam Probolsky, president of Probolsky Research, a national marketing and opinion research firm;
– David Rehr, a former lobbyist who is a Professor and Director at the Center for Business Civic Engagement at George Mason University;
– Amy Showalter, who started The Showalter Group focusing on government relations best practices, grassroots, and PAC influence; and
– Stephanie Vance, author of five books capturing her experiences as a lobbyist, grassroots consultant and Congressional aide.

The first e-book in the series was published in May 2020 and born from the pandemic, entitled, “Virtual Advocacy During Covid-19 and Beyond: Best Practices.” Multiple authors, including Franco, Fulton and Habursky, shared ways that they were able to continue effective communications with constituents, clients and elected officials through virtual and old school tactics.
