Alex Orfinger is stepping down as publisher of the Washington Business Journal after 18 years to take a new position overseeing 20 business journals for the organization’s parent company, WBJ reported today.
According to WBJ, American City Business Journals CEO Whitney Shaw announced Orfinger’s promotion to executive vice president, effective immediately. ACBJ Chief Revenue Officer Mike Olivieri was also named to the same position.
The WBJ report stated that Orfinger, shown above in WBJ photo, and Olivieri will each oversee half of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company’s 43 markets, working directly with publishers, management teams and staffs to “maximize local performance across all departments,” Shaw said. Orfinger will remain based at the WBJ office in Rosslyn.
“In their new jobs, Mike and Alex will each be responsible for a business operating in 20 markets with more than 500 employees,” Shaw said. “Clearly, it is a significant task, but I believe this will pay both short- and long-term dividends by focusing additional resources on local performance and by bringing better organization to the corporate support that is already in place.”
A search for Orfinger’s successor is underway.
