Around the Region: HZDG Opens West Coast Office, Two Digital Marketing Firms in Richmond Merge, and West Virginia Tourism Commission Targets D.C. and Baltimore Markets

Rockville, MD-based agency HZDG opened an office in Santa Cruz, CA – the firm’s first West Coast location. Ted Holladay, most recently head of Studio Holladay, will lead the office as vice president, creative director. Holladay’s appointment marks a reunion as, prior to opening Studio Holladay in 2005, Holladay worked at HZ’s Rockville headquarters as creative director.  The new West Coast office is the firm’s fifth office location.

Two Richmond-based digital marketing firms – Dynamic Web Solutions and Your Search Advisor – have merged, reports Richmond BizSense.  Dynamic Web Solutions offered search engine optimization services, while Your Search Advisors was more experienced helping companies convert visits to their sites into sales or leads. The combined 23-person company reports it has 85 clients in 19 states.

The West Virginia Tourism Commission approved $1.19 million of advertising matching grants, known as MAPP grants.  According to wvgazette.com, “As always, the state’s racetrack casinos and The Greenbrier resort picked up the largest share of the grants, totaling more than $532,000, including $50,000 to the latter to promote events at the resort, particularly the Greenbrier Classic PGA golf tournament in July.  Hollywood Casino in Charles Town picked up the largest grant, $246,252, to be used for advertising in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore markets that, in part, will promote the complex’s new Events Center in hopes of competing with rival casinos in Maryland.
