Booz Allen Hamilton Wins “Best of Show” at PRSA-NCC’s Thoth Awards

The Public Relations Society of America – National Capital Chapter (PRSA-NCC) recognized and honored outstanding public relations campaigns and initiatives produced by D.C. area communications professionals at its 46th Annual Thoth Awards Gala, Sept 9, at Artisphere in Arlington, VA.
PRSA-NCC presented 35 Thoth Awards and Certificates of Excellence, with the “Best In Show” award presented to Booz Allen Hamilton for the “Keep What You’ve Earned” campaign in support of the U.S. Navy 21st Century Sailor Office. The “Keep What You’ve Earned” campaign, launched in April 2013, aims to encourage Sailors to drink responsibly through the use of affirmative messaging, reminding them of all they have accomplished in their Navy careers. The campaign has received widespread support Navy-wide – from social media on the official U.S. Navy Facebook and Twitter accounts to Sailor-run events – encouraging fellow Sailors to make responsible decisions.

Over 200 people attended this year’s gala, which began with a moving induction of Jody Powell and Sheila Tate into the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame. Powell, former White House Press Secretary under President Jimmy Carter, and Tate, former White House Press Secretary to Nancy Reagan, formed renowned communications firm Powell Tate in 1991. The bipartisan firm soon became an area powerhouse and was later absorbed by Weber Shandwick where it continues to operate. Powell, who passed away in 2009, was honored posthumously. Wife Nan and daughter Emily were present to receive the award.
Inductees to the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame must have a record of 30 or more years of distinguished accomplishments, visionary leadership, mentoring, commitment to the profession, positive and significant impacts on the industry, and contributions to the community. All appointments to the Hall of Fame are made by peers in the field. Inductees must have a ten-year track record of work in the D.C. area.
“I speak on behalf of all Washington area public relations professions when I note what an honor it was to welcome Jody and Sheila to the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame,” said PRSA-NCC President Rebecca Andersen. “Their work—and the work of all of our winners here tonight— is an inspiration to our field, and has contributed to many of the positive, impactful communications campaigns that touch all of our lives.”
An experienced panel of Thoth Awards judges selected the finalist, reviewing numerous entries from a wide-range of public relations, non-profit, and corporate organizations in the D.C. area.
