The Washington Business Journal has announced the return of Doug Fruehling as Editor-in-Chief. Fruehling, a seasoned journalist with a decade of experience at the publication, will reassume leadership of the newsroom after a nearly four-year tenure in San Francisco.
At 54 years old, Fruehling brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of the Washington, D.C. business landscape. Prior to his departure in July 2019, he had served as the top editor of the Washington Business Journal for ten years. During his 18-year tenure at the publication, Fruehling held various positions including commercial real estate reporter, managing editor, and senior editor for On Site magazine.
Fruehling’s return follows the recent promotion of Vandana Sinha to a regional editor role within American City Business Journals, leaving a vacancy at the helm of the Washington Business Journal. With his extensive knowledge and leadership skills, Fruehling is well-suited to take on this important role.
Alex Orfinger, the Market President and Publisher of the Washington Business Journal, made the announcement on Tuesday at the newsroom’s Rosslyn office. Fruehling is expected to transition into his new position over the course of several weeks and plans to make a full-time return to the D.C. area in late summer, accompanied by his partner, Timothy Owens.
The Washington Business Journal is eager to welcome Doug Fruehling back and looks forward to his contributions in shaping the publication’s future. His extensive experience and deep connections within the D.C. business community will undoubtedly strengthen the publication’s coverage of the local economy.
