Dormify, the one-stop-shop for small space decorating, has just opened the doors to its first-ever national pop-up “Style Studios”, including a location at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, MD. Two additional Style Studios are now open in New York City and Chicago, through August.
The Style Studios are set up as showrooms, using actual beds, desks, and walls to mimic a small-space setup. Dormify stylists, who are current college students or recent grads, give advice to shoppers—whether they’re looking to outfit a dorm, bedroom, or apartment. The ability to physically create a total look with space constraints in mind—using affordable, stylish products and with informed peers—ensures a home-away-from-home that feels just right.
Dormify was incubated at local creative agency HZDG in 2011. Dormify’s custom product designs, collaborations with American Eagle and SCAD, and accolades from Forbes, Cosmopolitan and Good Morning America, have positioned the brand as a lifestyle powerhouse. Today, the brand serves pre-college shoppers and young professionals looking to put a stylish stamp on their first place—in addition to kids, teens, and campers.
HZDG founder and Chief Creative Officer Karen Zuckerman co-founded the brand with her daughter, Amanda, shortly after Amanda headed off to college. “We couldn’t find any truly stylish decor that was appropriate for the particulars of a dorm room space,” said Zuckerman. “Amanda wanted a look that reflected her taste, and we wanted quality, too. Just like we do when we work with brands, we saw a white space opportunity and got to work. Going off to college is a really big deal, and preparing a first home-away-from-home is an important part of that milestone,” said Zuckerman.
HZDG’s current roster includes Volkswagen of America, Hilton Worldwide, The Washington Redskins, Rockefeller Center, Bozzuto, and King Arthur Flour.
