The George Washington University to host town halls showcasing new marketing direction

The George Washington University will host two community town halls to share updates on the university’s refreshed marketing direction. This initiative, launched in early 2025, aims to ensure that GW’s communications and marketing efforts effectively highlight the ideas and strengths that make the institution distinctive. The current effort builds upon a previous branding initiative from 2012.

The sessions will preview GW’s brand positioning and narrative, as well as design elements that illustrate the updated look and feel. This new marketing direction has been shaped by extensive community feedback, including input from a university-wide working group, focus groups, a reputation survey, and discussions with university leaders. Many community members had an opportunity to see a sneak peek of the refreshed marketing direction during various activities at Alumni & Families Weekend.

The first town hall is scheduled for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the University Student Center Amphitheater on the Foggy Bottom campus. The second town hall will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 19 at Innovation Hall on the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. Attendance is limited to members of the GW community. At the town halls, attendees will learn about the creative concept, view examples of the marketing materials, and have the opportunity to ask questions.

“After 10 months of gathering feedback and collaborating with members from across the university, we’re excited to share this work with the community,” said Ellen Moran, vice president for communications and marketing. “Our refreshed marketing strategy amplifies GW’s strengths of proximity and progress, and is brought to life by a compelling creative concept. We encourage everyone to come out and get a first glimpse at the town halls.”
