The pandemic changed how we go to work as well as our expectations. Company loyalty is long gone. Recently completed research revealed that 52% of US workers aren’t tying their professional ambitions to being part of a company. And in fact, in Upwork’s Freelance Forward 2021 report, it’s predicted that by 2027 independent workers will outnumber employees. Freelancers, independent contractors, solopreneurs, gigsters, consultants. Call them what you want. They are not only here to stay, they are growing.
Join us in celebrating National Freelance Business Week. Our inaugural event in the DMV begins with the #FBWDC Kickoff! Following a welcome and remarks from a representative from the Executive Office of Mayor Muriel Bowser, our panel of local experts will discuss the state of freelancing, the different pathways to getting there and what the future of freelance will look like.
Speakers include:
Janet Baptiste, Vice President/Branch Director at Robert Half
Stacey Price, Co-Founder, Shop Made in DC
Connie Steele, author of “Building the Business of You” and Future of Work and Life expert
Moderator: Dr. Tony D. Johnson, President and CEO at Captivate Perspectives
Lunch will be provided after the panel. Stay following lunch for our Open House that will include a place to co-work/hang out, snacks and networking opportunities. Free professional headshots will be offered*. Come for some or all of the event.
You’ll come away with:
- An understanding of the state of freelancing in the DMV, where it’s headed and how it might impact you.
- Connections with other DMV freelancers
- Feeling part of a community
- A professional headshot!*
*We’re not taking reservations for these, so it will be first come, first served.
The #FBWDC Kickoff is being held at WeWork Midtown, 1100 15th St NW, Washington, DC 20005.
