WTOP has released a new mobile-optimized website, as well as an interactive mobile app for iPhone and Android. The new WTOP.com utilizes “responsive” technology which formats the website appearance to match whatever device the user is on.
Some of the other new features include expanded Living, Sports, Technology and Entertainment sections, an enhanced weather section, more photos and a cleaner and more modern look.
Director of Digital Media John Meyer said, “News consumption is no longer constrained to a single device or medium. We need to be able to consistently and seamlessly distribute news, traffic, and weather to people in their cars, on their phones, at their desks and on their tablets.”
In addition, WTOP has launched a new mobile app that easily allows a user to interact with WTOP. This app, which was developed by AudioNow Digital, presents a simple one-click listening experience and offers a person the ability to listen through their data or voice plan. In addition it provides links to the WTOP mobile site, social media integration, a feed of the latest WTOP headlines and the ability to send photos, audio or video directly to WTOP.
“While we are building the foundation of our digital strategy on the mobile web, we know the importance that apps play in the digital ecosystem. The app environment is very conducive to listening, and we hope to take advantage of this environment with this new addition,” stated Meyer.
Meyer will be one of the panelists appearing at Capitol Communicator’s March 6 Convergence in Communications Conference.
