Around Town: Local Salient CEO Attends London’s Women Entrepreneurs Mission, Edelman Announces Expansion, Glover Launches Ridgely|Walsh

Erin “Mack” Mckelvey, CEO of SalientMG in Columbia Maryland, is the only woman from the U.S. mid-Atlantic region invited to join the Mayor of London’s Mission of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders, during the London’s Tech Week, which began July 10thDelegates will get an exclusive insight into London’s tech scene, as well as targeted networking to grow their businesses in London. They will also experience what makes London a fantastic place to do international business, including making links with academic and government institutions, key infrastructure projects and exploring London’s cultural offering. This mission is part of the #BehindEveryGreatCity campaign, launched by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, in January 2018 to mark the centenary anniversary of the first women in the UK winning the right to vote, and to drive forward gender equality across the city.

This week, Edelman, one of the largest PR firms in Washington DC, announced an intentional expansion and direction shift for its company to include areas of social digital, entertainment, and a greatly expanded creative workforce.  According to Richard Edelman, President and CEO,  “We have made a serious commitment to helping our clients solve their problems in new ways, collaborating with them and supporting them as they Act With Certainty. In achieving this ambition, we have brought in a host of new skills.” Edelman now has a 700-person social digital unit and has added about 600 creatives, planners and paid media specialists. Their subsidiary, United Entertainment Group is dedicated to entertainment and sports. Edelman’s Intelligence business offers data and analytics. Edelman said it is also launching a global C-suite communications advisory business. The firm’s new direction includes campaigns for Heineken, REI, CVS, and Dove.

Juleanna Glover, who served on the staffs of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, has established Ridgely|Walsh to provide public affairs services to “transformational companies and causes.” During her career, Glover handled high-profile clients such as Microsoft,  Google, Uber, Tesla, Chobani, Eli Lilly, SpaceX, Alibaba and AT&T. Co-Founder and managing director, Damian Lair, has worked with Glover since 2015. Before this, he was the director of research for the Ashcroft Group and the Ashcroft Law Firm.  In his senior leadership role at Ridgely|Walsh, Damian advises clients on strategic communications matters, message development and profile building.
