For this episode of Capitol Communicator’s “Conversation With…” podcast profile, co-hosts Jeff Davis and Charlie Birney of Podcast Village traveled to Owings Mills, Md, to hear from Brian Kagen, chief marketing officer of Medifast, the portion-controlled weight-loss program. Photography for the podcast series is by Coyle Studios of Baltimore.
Kagen’s responsibilities at Medifast include brand strategy, product marketing, channel management, creative services, pricing and promotion, consumer insights, public relations, social media and marketing communications.
He joined the publicly traded Medifast in 2011 after a 14-year career with a Fortune 500 Company, Stanley Black & Decker, where he held the position of global vice president of marketing.
Kagen earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Masters of Business Administration degree from the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola University of Maryland, where he serves as a guest lecturer.
During the Capitol Communicator podcast he talks about all the clutter that’s out there, from email to social media posts, and the value of traditional face-to-face interactions to bring the personal touch back to communications. Brian said “relational skills” are perhaps more important than tactical expertise, as is planning, execution and measurement…and being willing to change.
